Gulval is situated on the narrowest part of the Land's End Peninsula and so is an ideal centre from which to explore both the North and South coasts of the Peninsula as far as Land's End, which is about 10 miles away.
This whole area is encircled by The Coastal Path which affords a splendid way to explore the area on foot.
For a Map of the Area Click Here.
The village is in 2 parts. One area developed around the Parish Church, which is known for its semi-tropical trees and plants, and the Coldstreamer Pub which is very popular because of its excellent food.
The other area, known as Trevarrack, is centred around the Methodist Chapel and the useful Village Stores and Post Office. Here you will find the two houses which comprise Gulval Cottages.
Above the village are Chysauster Huts - an Iron Age village.
Immediately across the A30, opposite the village, is Mount's Bay with a beach extending to Marazion and St. Michael's Mount (NT). The beach is an excellent place for swimmers and wind-surfers. The Mount itself is a "must", reached by the causeway at low tide or by boat. The links with Mount St. Michel and the Castle, along with its gardens, make it a place of great interest and it also gives spectacular views of the bay. The coastal path runs along the edge of the bay and, beyond Marazion, can take you out to The Lizard Peninsula. Around the bay there is a great variety of places to visit. Newlyn with its fish market and artistic tradition and Mousehole. Further towards Land's End are the delightful coves and beaches of Lamorna , Penberth , Porthcurno (with the Minack Theatre on the cliffs) and Porthgwarra which should not be missed.

From Chyandaunce drive up the hill on the B3311, which offers splendid views over the Mount's Bay, and within 20 minutes you are in St. Ives (buses also come through the village to St. lves). St. lves is surrounded by excellent beaches, surfers abound on Porthmeor beach. The town itself is bustling with life and is home to a very active artistic tradition. In the centre of the town is the Barbara Hepworth house and garden filled with her sculptures and her workshop, left just as it was when she died. Above Porthmeor Beach is the new Tate Gallery which specialises in the modern art tradition which made St. lves famous. Much to see and to do. Good eating in the Porthminster Hotel (with splendid views over St. lves) and in many other cafes and restaurants.
Penzance is the nearest shopping centre - less than a mile away - with good restaurants, bookshops and the permanent exhibition of the Newlyn School of Artists. This is in the House in the Penlee Gardens where there is also a nice cafe.
On the Penzance Promenade is an open-air swimming pool which fills with sea water. Further around the Promenade is the Queen's Hotel where you can eat a buffet lunch in their dining room overlooking the bay.
It's from Penzance harbour that the Scillonian sails to the Isles of Scilly - daytrips or extended periods.
